Fantasy Football Sleepers and Busts For 2008

By becoming a member of Fantasy Football Advice you also get access to our fantasy football sleepers and busts for 2008. We just don't provide you with a list of these guys either. Instead, we provide you with our analysis on why we feel these players are under-valued gems or over-hyped pieces of trash.

A typical example is like this....

Edgerrin James (RB) Arizona

Ok folks, hear us out on this pick. Sure Edge has been a major disappointment and a fantasy non-factor since he left Indy for the desert. And at his age (he just turned 30 at the beginning of August), he's suddenly not going to get fast again overnight. But as we've mentioned already in our fantasy guide...'08 is a lean year for RBs. There are just too few starting RBs that will get all the carries. And with virtually no competition for the job, James will be carrying the ball a lot in '08. Chances are people in your fantasy draft will bypass James in favor of riskier picks with seemingly more upside. That makes James what we would consider a great value pick / sleeper.

Plus, Head Coach Ken Wisenhut has a history of turning around running games. And we feel his second year in Arizona will go much more according to his plans. As a reminder, Ken Wisenhut came up as a coach from the Pittsburgh Steelers and in his first year as their offensive coordinator improved their running attack from 31st in the league to second from one season to the next.

While we're not necessarily predicting that level of success for the Cardinals running game in '08, we do expect it to get more efficient, and James' numbers to go up.

A look at the numbers showed that Arizona ran the ball quite a bit last season, and James' best games were early in the season when Leinart was their QB. We see James consistently getting 80-100 yards rushing most weeks, with the occasional big game. He'll also score more TDs than the 7 he did in '07. James is currently being drafted at the very beginning of the 5th round in recent fantasy mock drafts. Trust us, he'll be a steal this season if you can get him in the 4th round or later in your fantasy draft.

Jerricho Cotchery (WR) NYJ - Average Mock Draft Position 3rd pick of 7th round

Even before Favre became the new QB for the Jets, we've had Cotchery pegged as a sleeper. This guy quitely caught 82 passes for over 1,100 yards last season with the woeful combo of Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens at QB last season. And with one Favre in place, he's set for a significant improvement on his numbers in '08.

Although not that fast, he's pretty strong, and is quite elusive in the open field. We see him quickly becoming Favre's favorite target. Plus, the Jets have just enough other tools on offense for Favre to work to prevent defenses from completely keying on Cotchery.

People will probably shy away from Cotchery from his paltry 2 TDs in 2007, but again that was with crappy QBs. With Favre, he should get 8 this year no problem.
